Historic Buildings and Medical History

Located at 318 West Jefferson in Toulon, the Society's museum complex includes three significant buildings that tell Stark County's story. Dr. Hall's office, built in 1847, is believed to be Illinois' first doctor's office and provides a rare glimpse into mid-19th century medical practice. The beautifully restored Victorian home next door features original stained glass and period furnishings that showcase the craftsmanship of the era, including an unusual 34-star arrangement of the American flag. An Agricultural Building houses the Society's extensive collection of farm implements from the mid-1800s through mid-1900s.

Agricultural Heritage Collections

The Society preserves a vast collection of agricultural equipment, with particular emphasis on locally-made and patented implements that reflect Stark County's importance in farming innovation. Exhibits include early farm machinery, a preserved log home, covered wagon, and extensive collections of pioneer household items and Victorian artifacts. The ladies' closet displays period dresses that illuminate the material culture and fashion of rural Illinois.
